When I went thru Boot Camp we had Drown Proofing for 45 min to 1 hour. I had lost all my fat and would float at about 6 feet under the water. With less than 1 min to go the DI threw his knotted rope on my head and told me I failed. I went my entire time in the Corps rated as a 2nd class swimmer. I always felt cheated because the summer before I went to Boot Camp I had passed my Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course and taught Senior Life Saving class for the City Life Guards. I had also completed my Open Water SCUBA Certification. All before I went to Boot Camp. I felt that I was quailified to teach the class that they failed me in. That was the Corps that I grew up in. My dad was still on Active Duty when I enlisted. His younger brother survived Chosan Resivour in Korea.
